Meet Boye "Bibi" Asenuga
class of 2008
recipient of the 2020 distinguished alumni award
Please tell us a bit about yourself.
I am originally from Nigeria, mom-preneur and one of the Co-Founders of CHICNICITY, Contemporary Clothing with an Ethnic Inspired Twist. Our pieces are a perfect balance of ethnic inspired colors and prints in contemporary silhouettes that can be worn by modern women around the world.
When did you realize you wanted to pursue fashion design?
While I was in Law School in Nigeria, though I had always loved fashion as a young girl.
What is one of your favorite things about what you do?
Feedback on how our customers feel chic but comfortable when they wear CHICNICITY pieces.
What has been one of your biggest challenges in fashion design and how have you overcome it?
Finding a cost effective and reliable manufacturing partner. We have been able to overcome the issue by working with multiple factories, not putting our eggs in one basket. Being honest and respectful to our manufacturing partners.
What advice would you give to designers who are just starting out?
Be consistent, even when things seem not to go in the direction you want it to.
What is one habit that you have incorporated into your daily routine to help you succeed?
Providing content daily on our social media platform.
How can others support your work?
We welcome and love collaborating with other SFD alumni.
